Duel in The Sun

I spent the week hanging shelves and moving giant dusty books about but in-between it was a pleasure to assist an old friend, Daurade, with a piece he was writing for his website, Laws of Silence, START OF A DUEL (BURIED IN THE SUN) on Thomas Pynchon and Richard Farina, when they were Cornell students. The piece begins with the hunt for an alleged photograph of Pynchon and Farina dueling with swords in a graveyard, and radiates out from there. The famous Cornell ‘riot’ of course was the 1969 take over of the Straight. What I had no idea about was the 1958 ‘SEX RIOT’ of undergrads against the pueritanical regulation of student sexual life. It’s  fun reading about the pre-60’s Anarchist doings of people who would later change the world. Check it out.

  1. Glad to see you plugged the post Jon! It’s gotten a good response so far, with lots of visits and positive feedback on the Pynchon L. Something like a 1000 people have visited since it was posted. Your help with this project has been critical….you got in touch with me at just the right moment. This has happened before….we’re linked thru time and space now buddy. But that’s not surprising, you were there for me back in my Ithaca days, some of my darkest, and helped me get thru them. Your friendship, though long distance and with sporadic contact, means a lot to me.

  2. oh, thank you! We’ve had some crucial good times. May they continue…and congratulations on an amazing post.

  3. Thanks for mentioning the article and for all the help, Jon!

I’m about to post our follow up!
